San Gerardo Island is a tropical island off the lake shore of the Great Lake Nicaragua near Port Asese and is a short distance south of Granada. Nicaragua is known as the  " Land of Lakes and Volcanoes".

Granada was once the capital of Nicaragua and is now a common tourist spot for many North Americans and others from around the world.  

 

San Gerardo Island's are two Islands among over 500 other islands in the region and has more then 100 Mango trees, many other fruits and tropical birds on the island.

 

The present owners of San Gerardo Island plain to begin preparing the Island for Buddhist retreats. There will also be a educational center where people will learn horticulture and permaculture. In the fuure the San Gerardo Island Buddhist Retreat Center hopes to bring medical care and higher education to some people of the region.

 

Our hope and intentions are to make San Gerardo Island a self sustaining island through agriculture and reusable energy resources and to bring aid and much needed resources to the people in this region through training, education and through the contributions of volunteers, donors and visitors on retreat.
